WHAT IS BEST CAMPING BED SETUP?

There is nothing worse than looking forward to a cosy bed and ending up sleeping on a cold hard floor. Here we talk about the best camping bed set up.

When I first began camping, I spent a lot of money on cheap inflatable mattresses. We would pump them up, only to find that they had sprung a leak during the night. I would wake up stiff and sore and spend ages looking for a little hole, determined to repair it.

I thought the answer to this problem was to spend more money on a very expensive “luxury” inflatable mattress, this lasted a few camping trips, before ending up in the bed graveyard with the cheapo ones.

Finally, I discovered self inflating mats!!

For anyone wishing to buy a camping bed, self inflating mats (also known as SIMs) are the way to go.

A good SIM is expensive but well worth the money… even a cheaper SIM is better than a cheap inflatable mattress.

Of course the thicker the SIM, the better the sleep.

Therefore, if you can afford it, buy a well known brand above 10cm thickness, although the Outwell 7.5cm gets very good reviews too. Generally, kids don’t care, so you can get away with cheap SIMs for them!

LUXURY AND EXPENSIVE:

  • Vango Comfort 5cm

INFLATABLE BED BASE

In addition to the actual camping bed, these bed bases are meant to be amazing. You use them under your SIM / blow up mattress, one if you have a single and two next to each other if you have a double. Because of their pumped up edge, they lift you off the ground and give you extra comfort.
